CASE STUDY

One of our corporate clients asked us to help solve a specific problem; finding yield and return on investment for the company’s cash reserve funds. Over the years we have advised them on various matters, including their 401K plan and assisting over 500 employees with retirement planning.

As an established company they were holding a large amount of cash that would normally be earmarked for acquisitions. Because of the sudden economic downturn caused by the COVID Pandemic, normal growth opportunities were non-existent and ultra-low interest rates created little return on cash.

Main Concern - Lacking an overall plan and strategy

How we would help – Meet with the company CEO, CFO and GM to determine an appropriate asset allocation among various asset classes. Engage our firm’s high-net worth consulting group to develop a combination of outside money managers. After the managers are identified, we would conduct due diligence meetings with the company executives and assist in negotiating fees for the selected managers.

Main Concern - Balancing competing priorities

How we would help – By taking a consulting and non-proprietary approach to manager selection, we would sit on the same side of the table as the client. The result would be a group of specific money managers that work in conjunction in an effort to help produce the expected risk verses return. We would review the manager’s risk adjusted returns and make recommendations based on objective data.

Main Concern - Limited liquidity/access to funds for acquisitions.

How we would help – We would leverage firm resources to provide the company with funding for future acquisitions.

This case study is hypothetical and for discussion purposes only. It is not intended to represent any specific return, yield or investment. Individual experiences referenced above may not reflect the future experience of any one client. The planning process discussed may not be suitable for your personal situation, even if it is similar to the example presented. Past performance is no guarantee of future results. Investing involves risk including the possible loss of principal.

Have questions about your 401(k)? We have advice on that. For questions about estate planning, we can offer clarity.

The second method is a flat dollar structure, where we help with various Planning or Investment Consulting service areas. Our Planning services include Financial, Tax, Insurance, Education, Retirement, Estate, and Business Planning. Our Investment Consulting services include creating an investment profile, a portfolio holdings review, asset allocation review, investment strategy recommendations, security, and investment manager research of asset classes and sub-class analysis, sector, style, and historic performance review.

There are investment products with additional fees, such as 529 College savings plans & Life Insurance Products, which will be evaluated when determining the right solution for you.
